Can you beat MB without BMR?

Barring training Arcana to insane reqs to use a Psychic Shield Brooch, or having a pocket moonie to cast it...

What's the method? It just doesn't matter what you do, it's nearly impossible to beat:

RF --> search --> MB --> MB --> MB --> Burn!

FWIW - I have SOD, and can cast a very minor psi-shield, but a fully prepped MB can take me down with SOD+CappedPsI+WotP.


Any suggestions would be helpful.

Intelligence and Discipline is where it's at with regard to defending against Mental Blast. Charisma will help a little bit too. You'll have to train them to high heaven to be able to defend against a capped Mental Blast though.

To counter, I would use RF runestone mixed with a Frostbite runestone prepped, find them and then cast the frostbite. It will tank their fatigue so they'll more than likely backfire if they've got a capped Mental Blast prepared.

If you know he's going for MB, it means he probably isn't using shear. If you can get a look at him in the open, that'll help your cause. Shear = not MBing typically.

I'd try to win the stealth battle. Inviso around, search for spot effect, run away, come back a few seconds later with spot effect now and take aim. Unless he's got a search on you too, he won't be able to cast without giving you a heads up that he's searched and seen you.

If you know he's not using shear, you can use BB. The frostbite route Leilond mentioned would be a terrific ambush opener too regardless of shear. AOEs > MMs

I think most of that stuff will be fixed with combat 3.0. Rangers getting a mobile invisibility, MB getting nerfed, chain stuns getting nerfed. Should be fun times
