| First off, I will admit I am horrible when it comes to knowing what weapons work well in PvP. I'm very much an amateur when it comes to PvP in DR and am starting to learn and practice more.
How do people feel about the power difference between HT and LT? I am trying to make some decisions about what weapons I really want to focus on and I keep getting stuck between these two. Right now my LT skill is 100 ranks higher than HT, so I am trying to decide if I should try to catch it back up or just continue with LT for PvP.
I don't mind backtraiing HT too much if it will be worthwhile, but would rather not worry about it too much if it won't be too much of a difference.
The current weapons I am training (including those I am backtraining) are: LT HT Halberd Longbow LE HB Brawl TM
I'd like to cut one or two weapons out but don't want to end up making a horrible uninformed decision.
Thanks.

| To be honest, whichever works better depends on your opponent in my opinion.
Assuming you have a boat-load of Light Thrown ranks and can throw five throwing blades at once, that will eat lighter armored opponents alive. Likewise, throwing blades will do little to nothing against heavy plate and large shield users. That is where Heavy Thrown weapons shine(HT also works against light armored people but not as well as throwing blades IMO).
I think you should train both skills, because of the above and because things are going to be shaken up whenever Combat 3.0 hits Prime.

| With new forging, train HT if you have to choose (training both isn't that hard). WTB super new forged spear with rare metal + bonding potion. I'd backtrain Fyrn's HT up to his other weapons if it wouldn't take me a year of playing everyday.
Those who know me also know that I am a huge advocate of crossbow even though training it is sloooow. You may want to reconsider the LE.

| Since you didn't do offhand and LX or HX, I'd probably lean HT since you're going to be stowing your ranged weapon and getting your shield out before throwing most likely. Going forward I wonder how much damage LT is really going to do against the metal armors.
I think HT is the better fit, but one is not inherently "better than" the other. If it means backtraining and hunting something that is not otherwise ideal, and if you're in the 400, 500, 600 ranks range as a weapons tert, part of me says fuck it- Just go with the one that's 100 higher. Backtraining weapons tert blows.

| LT is easier to train from lower levels. The new forged HTs are crazy though. I'd go with LT at the moment, cuz they are getting combined in 2035, right? | |

| Thanks for all the replies.
I think I'll keep working on my HT to try and get it up to level. I'll keep working on LT since throwing blades make it so easy to lock (and offhand which I didn't mention). I have a few bars of rare metal that I might get turned into a spear so it will probably be worth it in the long run. Spears fit the character way better anyways.
I really only did the LE because of guild requirements. Halberds and brawling are actually higher than my LE and I rarely work on it unless I'm just keeping it up to the point where I can use it on the next critter I move up to so I can train it if I am locked in everything else.
Oh and just an FYI throwing weapons aren't being combined in the skill combine so HT and LT will stay separate skills. I think I remember them hinting they would be combined long ago and stopped working on my HT thinking they would be combined and I didn't want to duplicate too many weapons. Oh well... luckily it isn't too far behind.

| Oh, you're right, it's not. Like others suggested, I'd go with HT if I had to choose. | |

| Leilond and everyone else is on point. I have a slight worry about the damage LT will do in combat 3.0 since all attacks will be weaker. I think when the smoke clears HT will be undeniably the better weapon so you should keep that up. No other weapon trains as fast as LT when you're throwing enough throwing blades so you should definitely keep that going too. | |
